What does MGO mean in Manuka honey?
MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a naturally occurring compound measured in Manuka honey. The number on the label expresses the minimum measured MGO level in milligrams per kilogram. For example, MGO 500+ means the honey is rated at no less than 500 mg/kg of methylglyoxal.
MGO is a grading measure. It does not tell you how much honey to serve and it should not be read as a medical claim. Higher-rated jars are generally rarer and have a more concentrated, robust Manuka character.
What does NPA mean?
NPA means non-peroxide activity. It is another grading expression used for Manuka honey. Each Puspamrta label displays both ratings so shoppers can compare the collection clearly—for example, MGO 500+ is shown with NPA 15+.

Start with taste
If you prefer a gentle daily honey, begin with MGO 100+ or MGO 263+. Choose MGO 500+ or MGO 900+ for a stronger, richer Manuka profile.
Match your routine
Every grade can be enjoyed from the spoon or with toast, yoghurt and warm—not boiling—drinks. Higher MGO does not require a larger serving.
Consider rarity and budget
Premium and Vintage Grade jars have higher tested MGO levels and are comparatively rare. Choose the rating whose provenance, taste position and price suit you.
Serving and storage
Enjoy Manuka honey straight from the spoon, drizzle it over breakfast or stir it into a warm drink. Store the jar tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Natural honey can crystallise over time; this is a normal characteristic and does not mean the product is spoiled.
